Each one of us has a different hair goal whether it is to grow your natural hair long or concerned more on the health of your hair. In case you didn’t know your hair is always growing, it’s about being able to retain the length to get it to the length you desire. This article is for the ladies who are in need of some extra tips on how to grow long natural hair.
I wanted to start off with 3 tips of my personal experience that can lead you into the right direction.
Moisture– Moisture is the number one thing I need to have my hair maintain its health and retain length. Moisture keeps my hair soft and aids in my detangling process. Especially, focus on the ends of the hair when it comes to adding moisture. My favorites are the Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie-12 oz, Coconut Oil and Shea Moisture Curling Gel soufflé combination to give me the right amount of moisture.
Limit heat use– I personally use heat twice a year. I know it’s hard for some ladies to even think about prolonging not using heat. Minimize heat to once- twice a month if your use to using heat. Over usage of a flat iron, blow dryers and curling irons can lead to heat damage where it damages the cuticle and hard to revert back to curls. Instead of the usual heat appliances, try flexi rods, perm rods, or curlformers to get your hair stretched without the excessive amount of heat
Protective styles– This is another one of my top tips on how to retain length by keeping hair stretched and using protective styles. Protective styles is when your hair is protected from the weather elements or clothes that can easily cause your hair to break or snag. Keeping the ends strong and protected helps to retain length and get you closer to your hair growth goals. Protective styles helps to keep my hands out my hair. Having hands constantly in my hair can lead to breakage so if anything opt for protective styles such as two strand twist, buns, braids or updos.
