Even though I heard about pre-pooing so many times, I never realized the amazing benefits pre-pooing can do for your hair. Let’s first get to the important question
What is pre-poo?
Pre-poo stands for pre shampoo. This is when you place an oil, butter or conditioner all throughout your hair prior to cleansing.
In the last couple of months, I have brought pre-pooing back in my life and I’m loving it. I didn’t realize how much adding an extra step can make a big difference. The top oils for a fab pre-poo treatment are coconut oil, castor oil and olive oil. Feel free to use this all througout your hair alone or you can make your own D.I.Y concoction. You can always do a D.I.Y pre-poo mix with using your basics coconut oil, castor oil or olive oil with a banana, avocado, butters (mango, shea) or other oils (tea-tree oil, lavender oil, etc…) to give your hair an extra boost.
What I want you to know is the why? Why do you need to pre-poo and what benefits it can bring to your tresses. Here are 5 benefits of taking the time to pre-poo.
1) Easier to detangle
I know for me, detangling is a pain in the butt as it is. Using pre-poo helps make it easier to get the loose strands from daily shedding.
2) Softer strands
Pre-pooing helps keep the hair soft while shampooing and makes sure you get double the moisture when you rinse out your conditioner.
3) Decrease breakage
Pre-pooing makes the hair easier to finger comb or comb through because of the moisture, which in turn reduces hair breakage.
4) Restore suppleness
The moisture that the oil causes leads to having more moisture when shampooing, rather than dryness.
5) Decrease “over clean” feeling
When shampooing, even though you want your hair and scalp to be clean, you don’t need want that squeaky-clean feeling. Shampoos are supposed to cleanse the scalp from the product, sweat, and oil that has built up over the week. Decreasing that over clean feeling will allow for your natural oils to be restored versus stripping them.
Will you bring pre-pooing back in your life?
