Wheres my length at?
1 year then 2
or more years go by and it seemed as though I grew my hair out BUT I cant see my progress. At times, yeah I don’t mind a “short curly do” but than others I want to see where the hell my months or years of progress went of me taking care of my hair. Lets keep it real sometimes were not all about that shrinkage life. Can you feel me on this one? Yes, I’m glad I’m not the only one. So now what to do? Well you came to the right place I want you to know that were in this together bestie.
Disclaimer: There’s no way to entirely minimize shrinkage without heat but what we can do is decrease the amount of shrinkage and get real CLOSE. Here are the top 5 heatless styles to give you the Elongation your looking for:
Twist are my personal go tos because it dries the fastest while my hair is wet. The thicker the twist the drier the hair will get. When it comes to twist to begin styling I start while my hair is damp to make sure my leave in conditioner is in so my hair doesn’t completely dry out. I try to wait until my hair is 90% dry when doing my twist to achieve the elongated loom. If the hair is wet your more likely inclined to an ample amount of shrinkage. Most natural hair products have water in it which makes hair shrink even more. Having it on dry then adding product will still have your hair shrink but not as much.

Braids help achieve the best elongation when it comes to a fast simple style. If you do about 6-10 braids all around you can beat shrinkage. Braids can also come out flat so feel free to utilize the afro pic to give you that volumized look.
Curlformers are amazing if your going for a straight out of the salon curls look. It can seem complicated the first time placing curlformers in your hair. Check out the video below for more details. Once you get the method down packed you get beautiful spiral curls.
4) African Threading
African threading is the method of stretching your hair using thread to wrap around your hair for an elongated look. It can look a little different than what what your use too while waiting for the hair to stretch but gives you great results for a stretched look.
5) Bun it
Oh the bun or bantu knot if you have more than one. This is my go to when I need to wash my hair and need to do a quick style. Right now rocking the bun for some days then letting the hair out gives a great stretch to show the elongation.
Hopefully these styles help get you showing your length if the shrinkage game is not working for you. If you need some styles after your elongation
What is the way you beat shrinkage?
