Have you ever felt the need to try something different or maybe what you thought your calling was is seeming a little uninteresting as it used to be?
In this fearless journey there will be some days where you need to make a change in a different direction.
Now, that it’s been a year plus out of graduate school and part of me is thinking was all that work even worth it.
Yes, it gave me a great experience but now actually being in the field some part of me is wanting a change. If you don’t know what I do, I’m a mental health counselor so always helping others in need and rarely having time for myself as I like to call it.
I pray each day for peace and guiding me in the right direction.
I know I’m guilty with sometimes asking God to show me a sign on which direction to go or simply trying to ask him for something instead of simply talking with him.
But, now it’s time to look into me and what I want to do. I figured I would talk about it just in case someone else is going through the same situation. How to know when it’s time for a change?
Each and every day you have the same daydream of doing something different.
I know each and every day, I daydream about being a natural hair blogger, making events, helping women learn more about their hair and empowering women to be their best self.
Has this happened to you? Daydreaming and visioning yourself doing something different. Where every time you have a free time you get excited about doing something else it might be time for that change.
Minor problems become bigger
Do you find yourself getting upset over small matters that use to not bother you but now seem bigger than what they are?
It might be time to make something different happen. If what your doing now has you feeling overwhelmed to the point where you bring the anger and stress to your home, then it might be time to reanalyze your career choice.
Decrease in Energy
Girl, do you ever feel like you need a whole team to even get you out of bed?
Even though counseling or social work field can be draining in itself, I know I have to have some extra willpower to sometimes get me going. I know once in awhile of course your going to have that decrease in your energy but if it’s a everyday situation, it might be time to change your situation.
How to Make That Happen
Know that it’s okay to change your career
We tend to sometimes get in this mindset that we only have one career in our life and that’s it. Know that you don’t have to stick with the same career all your life we do have the option to choose. WE only live once right, how about you start doing what you love and what you’re passionate about. Visualize where you want to be and what you want to be doing. Then begin doing some research on your area of interest to be able to narrow down where you want to take this new venture.
Remember: We have every right to change our mind as much as we would like too.
Being around people who are already in your new career field makes it easier to find out more about the business. Talk to people in your different areas of interest from entry to professional level to see what your getting yourself into. If there are networking events around your area try meet up groups that can get you talking and meeting others to begin your new venture on the right path.
It’s time to believe that you know that your new career change can happen. Re-define yourself and begin to believe that you can do it. According to Harold Stovold ( head of career site Jabulo), he recommends to begin by “starting to say to yourself and to everyone you meet that you work in [your new sector]. As you continue to say this, you will begin to feel more comfortable and bring it into existence.
