So you’ve been hearing me (Bianca) talk about cutting and coloring my hair for some time now. Well, one of the two happened on August 19, 2016. If you watched the Facebook live preview you already know…I CUT MY HAIR! Well, I actually didn’t do it but the amazing Lenise Robinson, Co-Owner of Canvas the Salon & creator of Twist & Talk Tour cut my hair. And I absolutely love it!
The Back Story/Inspiration
Originally I was thinking about a tapered cut. Click here for some tapered cut inspiration. Then, while strolling on Pinterest for short natural hair inspiration I saw a couple of natural hair bob cuts (see pics above) that had me so convinced that the bob cut was the way to go. The timing of the cut was based on preparing for the 2nd Annual Naturals Got Soul, which was held on August 20, 2016. I wanted to do the big reveal of my new do at the event so, I reached out to Lenise who styled my hair for the 1st Naturals Got Soul event and she was all in. She knew I wanted a cut and twists, but I wasn’t specific about how I wanted my hair cut.
Canvas the Salon is located at 212 E Clay Street in Richmond, VA. Co-owner and stylist Lenise Robinson styled my hair and took such great care of me. Upon arrival, Lenise offered complimentary snacks and drinks prior to taking me to the wash area. I felt right at home at the salon with it’s modern-chic look and the tunes of soul artists playing in the background. You know, the sounds of Jill, Badu, Musiq, Anthony Hamilton and all my other favs…I definitely felt at home. I shared with Lenise about the last time I had a trim and then revealed that I wanted a bob cut. She was so excited! I then showed her a few of the bob cut inspiration photos I had been crushing on and she knew exactly what I wanted. I didn’t pay close attention to product labels; however I did notice when she used Adiva Naturals Lusterizer (It’s one of my favs. Check out my review of it here). Lenise shampooed and deep conditioned my hair. I sat under the dryer for approximately 30 minutes for the deep conditioning treatment. After washing that out, she then blew my hair out and began cutting. She asked, “Are you nervous?” Without any thought I replied, “No.” And I truly wasn’t nervous. I had already made up in my mind I wanted a new look and the bob cut was it. I knew I didn’t want an angled bob and I wanted layers in the back. I wasn’t particular about how long or short I wanted the cut to be, so I trusted Lenise to do whatever length she thought would look the best on me. After the cut, she did two strand flat twist, which I left in for a twist-out the next day. I was in and out of her chair within 2 hours (yes…you read that correctly. TWO hours), which I greatly appreciated with such a busy day ahead. Lenise was so professional and I highly recommend her for all of your hair care needs, especially for my Naturalistas. We can’t trust everyone to style our hair, but @hairgreaselenise got you! To find out more about Lenise’s services or to book an appointment click here.
On Saturday August 20th Lenise took out the two strand flat twist and viola! I was so excited! I love the bob cut. I love how my curls fell. The twist out was poppin’. I love the volume.
