As I’m coming up to half a year in the blogging/entrepreneur world. What I enjoyed most is being able to connect with women, bloggers and entrepreneurs all trying to grow and embrace who they are to live fearlessly and live a more fulfilling life. But to keep it real, there have been some challenges. We all make mistakes and have challenges that help us grow. So, When I learn information or overcame a challenge my first thought is I got to tell my besties. Last week, was a wake up call when it came to our business. These lessons can also be applied to life. Let me first start with when it comes to being fearless you KNOW you have to go outside of your comfort zone to grow. If you haven’t done it already try our challenge here.
The challenges we have told you about have all helped Bianca and I in growing. So lets keep it real we have made some mistakes and overcame them which is what life is all about. So, besties I want to lay out the lessons we learned from our mistakes so it doesn’t happen to you. Were in this journey together so here are the lessons we learned since being up and running. I hope this helps you in your journey in living a more fulfilling life or starting a business.
1) Think about who you are first vs what you do
Have you done this? Or maybe you haven’t realized your doing it yet. You get so caught up into being a government worker, counselor, business owner or whatever you want to be that you forget about YOU. Its great and all that you want do exceed at your career but you often get confused on where you want to go because your not being true to who you are.
Think about the things you like to do. What do you like to do? (Ex: I love everything about natural hair, natural hair expos, products etc)
What are those things that make you happy. What are the things that make you happy whether you realize it or not? ( ex: I enjoy seeing people become unstuck or overcome their feeling of being lost. it’s something I didn’t realize but genuinely makes me happy) ( other examples: Drawing, talking to people on a certain subject or working with numbers)
At first we focused so much on what we do (natural hair event planners,) we forgot the foundation of who we were (encouragers, passionate about helping others succeed, knowing our strengths). Once you know who you are then what you do has more of a purpose and passion behind it.
2) Have your vision
Have a vision, this is so vital in your life and in business. If you do not have a vision then there’s no direction. I use to think that I could go into business with no vision and you know what. It started off all over the place. We had to sit down and make time to decide
Where do we want to go with this business or your life?
What is the impact that you want to make?
Now we know what direction we are in and where we want to go within our business. It helps everything flow together since everyone is under the same vision.
3) Give yourself a timeline
Set small goals for yourself for you to work towards. Also, remember to make them clear, specific and measurable. At first we were so excited to jump in and help you but we had to set back and make sure we had our goals in place. If we jumped right in how would we know we were making a difference.
What do you want to accomplish in one year?
What do you want to accomplish in 3 years?
Goals helps you narrow down what’s important in the first year vs. thinking about year 3 or 4.
4) Make a business plan or life plan
A business/life plan is so important in helping the business and staying focused on the end goal. The plan helps you make actionable steps into making your timeline, monetization and vision happen. As you develop in life or business sometimes circumstances can make you go off course. The times where it does you can reference back to your plan to make sure you know what direction you need to be in.
All four lessons tie in together because once you find out who you are mixed with what you do (mission statement), have your vision and set your small goals these all contribute into your business/life plan. This plan lets people know what your about, where your headed and how your going to get there.
Don’t let anyone hold you back from where you want to go in life. If your not happy in what your doing, then change it. It’s that simple. If you have any questions or comments we always love to hear from you at email@example.com.
