I realized that we had a lot of styles that dealt with cornrowing and flat twisting without even showing you how to actually do the styles. We are big believers on you knowing how to do your hair so you do not have to depend on anyone having to do your hair. After having our 21 day Health Hair Challenge I realized on how much being able to do your own hair and knowing what to do makes a huge difference in how you feel about your hair. Cornrowing and Flat twisting are two of the main styles that are the go to’s when it comes to protective styles. Since we have been stressing the importance of protective styles it’s important to show you exactly how to do your cornrow and flat twist with going back to the basics.
MariaAntoinetteTV did a great example on really breaking how to do a cornrow down. You part the section you want to cornrow. Once you finish parting take three pieces and begin crossing over the right section over the middle piece. Then taking the left section and begin crossing that side over the middle section. As you continue crossing left to the middle then right to middle take pieces of hair to grab to have the cornrow lay flat on your head. I know it sounds complicated but through practice, I know you will be able to do it.
Flat Twist generally works the same way but except for three pieces you will only be using two. J Mayo gives a great example on how to achieve a flat twist on a TWA. I didn’t want you to think that these styles only works on medium to long hair naturals. This style can also work on TWA and tapered styles to give you a cute and chic look. You make two small sections and go over and under while grabbing more hair.
I know it can be a pain having to learn these basic natural hair styles but it will make a world of difference when you start your protective styles. If your advanced on your protective styles and need more inspiration. Try these styles
