I recently saw this meme below stating “when you wake up in the middle of the night and you have to put your scarf back on ”.
I know I am not the only one that does this. You have a long day at work or with the kids then have to take are of your family on top of that. Oh lucky me I have to add the last weeks of pregnancy on top of that!! Girl you know I am TIRED.
The past couple of days I have been rocking the “ my hairstyle is called tired look” I know I see some youtubers who have the flyest looking twist out that seemed to last for weeks right with just doing a nice pineapple. Nope that has not worked for me the way this humidity is set up it’s acting like it doesn’t want to let me be great. I know I should have took some time to twist at night but after all the work from my first twist out I want to at least get some days added on to it. Bianca had a great post about how to get the perfect defined twist out that you can check out here. But, as you can tell from my story my tiredness took over for me to go to bed neglecting my hair which ended up being a matted mess. You know the type of mess where you don’t even know where to start detangling because you just know there is going to be some breakage that is about to pop off.
If your hair ends up being detangled one of the number things you better not do is to try to hop in that shower and start shampooing. Don’t you dare think that it’s going to get easier. You’re going to have to go in and get through it but that’s why we’re here to make sure you know what to do to make it a simple process for you.

When it comes to 4C Hair due to the density of the hair you are going to want to put your hair in sections. My favorite place to start with is the back and Annettemint (youtube below) also shows you exactly what you need to do to finger detangle. You want your hair to have some slippage so my favorite is having a spray bottle handy with one of my favorite conditioners to make it easier for my fingers to go through my hair. In this case since your hair is matted you want your hair to be wet to release the shed hair. Once you finger detangle first then you want to use a wide tooth comb or one of our favorite detangling tools which we talk about here and we discuss our Top Detangling Methods here for those that are not dealing with extremely matted hair. After you finish with one small section do a loose twist to keep the hair from not tangling around each other continue to go through each section throughout the hair.
if you find yourself getting frustrated please do take a minute break. You do not want to be frustrated and start pulling at your knots or pulling on your hair because you want it to be over with. Girl I know you can do this take as many breaks as you need take a deep breath and keep going. I added the video below to give you a visual detail on how to finger detangle.
