If you’re new to the Fearless Series, we’re working our way into becoming fearless.
“It can be SCARY putting yourself out there; but what is scarier, is not trying and never knowing what could have happened.”
If you’re focused on having control or worried about the future vs. the present. This could be the fear that is holding you back into a successful business, promotion, being an entrepreneur, or even great relationships. Fear of the Unknown is being so worried about what could probably happen that you forget about what’s happening now. Fear of the Unknown can also result from lack of confidence or lack of control.
I know I’m a victim to this Fear and I’ve talked to plenty of people who have the same issue.
We like to know what’s going to happen, right?
Having control keeps us within our comfort zone.
I mean, if things would just go our way, the world would be a much better place.
I wish it worked that way! 🙂
Letting go of control or lacking confidence can sometimes make us feel crazy for even thinking about stepping into the unknown (future).
Our comfort zone is our sanctuary. What makes us feel safe but it’s time to start breaking out your comfort zone and living LIFE: your LIFE!
Beauties, we have heard the cliché “You can’t control anyone but you.” But for some reason our thoughts (yes including me) think that we still can. We can’t control our significant others, friends, strangers, boss, family members but we can control how we react and think about them. If you become so consumed with worry about something you can’t control.
Here are tips to overcome our fear of the unknown.
Focus on the present a.k.a Mindfulness
It’s about being focused on the present.
I get so consumed in the” what if’s of life that I don’t focus on what’s in front of me. “Being in the present helps you enjoy your life. We have to stop worrying about the future and start focusing on the present. In this present moment, think about the family, friends you have. When you’re talking to someone, be present with them. Instead of thinking about what they did before or what your assuming there about to do. If you’re thinking about starting a business, think about your creative process and enjoy the process of beginning to start a business. Focusing on the present eliminates you to stop over thinking and start living. If you want more information on this, a good read is The Power of Now. Being present makes your relationships stronger, fear less, makes you happier, and joyful about life. Future has us worried but if you’re living in the present, there is no need to worry your focus on what’s in front of you.
Small steps to your goal
Taking small steps to your overall goal can make the Fear of the Unknown diminish.
Breaking your large goal into small ones can lead you feeling accomplished rather than taking everything head on. This tip also helps you prepare for what you want to do. For example if you want to start a business, do your research, ask questions and explore your curiosity. Each time, set a schedule of small goals to follow so you can prioritize and become organized.
Actors wouldn’t go on stage without preparation and/or you wouldn’t take a test without studying (hopefully.) It’s about taking on the preparation and setting small goals to get where you need to go.
Power of Positivity
It’s time to bring out the power of positivity to combat your fear of the unknown.
Thinking positive can make a tremendous difference. Usually the times we want control is when our negative thinking takes over. We start thinking something is going to happen if we don’t have it our way. Being in the present and thinking positive can slowly stray you away from thinking the world is going to end if you don’t have your way. For example, in relationships if he/she doesn’t clean how you want them to clean. It’s about you letting the person know and thinking positive, “if he doesn’t clean the dishes the way you do them, is it really going to be the end of the world.” The point is he/she tried it’s not about being a certain way. “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff… and It’s All Small Stuff” by Richard Carson is a great way to start thinking positive and lessening your release of having control and living life.
“Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and focus on what could go right..” -Unknown
