Name and where you’re from?
I’m Christine and I am a born and bred Brooklyn babe.
Describe your natural hair journey?
Wow, lets see… My natural hair journey has been a healthy mix of fun, learning, frustration and experimentation. In retrospect, I love every second of it!
My hands down, absolute favorite hair product is Belle Butters’ (bellebutter.com) Premium Whipped Shea Butter. I use it as a styler on my super thick and dense hair. The butter is also very moisturizing, which I love and Tasha, the owner, is so sweet! #BuyBlack! KeraCare detangling shampoo is pretty good as well as the As I Am Leave-in Conditioner. I’m on a forever search for the perfect deep and rinse out conditioner so I’m open to suggestions.
What is your go-to hairstyle?
I don’t know how to cornrow my own hair or flat twist so I am by default limited to the twist out; a little boring but very trusty.
What advice would you give to a woman that has a hard time embracing her natural hair?
Curlfriend, your natural hair is your God-given crown. It can be so much fun having hair that is so versatile. Be patient in finding what works for you and rock it!
I pen a personal lifestyle blog that documents my journey to 100% independence the “real” world. I discuss challenges, failures, successes, lessons I’ve learned and am still learning, all in hopes that someone younger than me can know what to expect as they’re growing into adulthood as well. You can follow my journey at thejanuaryissue.com.
As women we wear many hats, how do you maintain a healthy work/life balance?
As I am currently in a transition, I’m lucky enough to have all my time dedicated to my blog.
To me, Natural Power of HER means just that. I truly believe that women are superheroes, naturally and Bianca and Samantha have created a platform where sheroes from everywhere can unite, encourage one another and share their stories.
It’s TheJanuaryIssue everywhere!
