Ladies, I want to encourage you today to step out on faith and do whatever it is you keep postponing. You may be telling yourself you’re waiting until you finish that degree; or you’re waiting for your children to get older; or you’re waiting for the perfect timing; or you’re waiting for so and so approval; or you’re waiting until you save enough money; or you’re waiting for your finances to be in a better place; and all the other excuses that keep you from doing what you’re destined to do. STOP!
Look at it this way – the more you continue to postpone working toward and doing what you know you’re called to do, the more people you’re suppose to reach are lost or lacking. I know….that’s heavy! But it’s the truth. God created you for a specific purpose to help others in some way. There are people in the world that are waiting for you to walk in your purpose and pour out your gifts within to help them in their life’s journey.
I get it! I will be the first to admit that I’ve been guilty of sleeping on my gifts, not walking in my calling, not living a purpose driven life, welcoming fear in all aspects of my life, making one excuse after the other, procrastinating, waiting for the perfect timing, asking God over and over to reveal what he’s already revealed several times, and the list goes on. Trust I’ve been there and I still go through days of having to put my mental in check. And this is how the fearless journey started; I was fed up with getting these amazing visions from God and (what I thought at the time) missing the prime time to execute those visions.
For example: In 2007 after completing college-level research and doing a presentation on the evolution of African American hair, I begun to admire natural hair styles. It wasn’t until 2009 that I had my last relaxer and in 2010 I big chopped. After I made the bold move to big chop amongst all the negativity that surrounded me about it, I actually encouraged quite a few family, friends and co-workers to return to the curl. In fact, within my first 2 years of being natural, 11 people connected to me decided to return to the curl. One of the 11 was my own mother who was very discouraging when I started the natural hair journey. Now fast forward to 2015; Natural Power of HER was created.
You see, I had tons of excuses why I didn’t expand my research (after my professor and doctoral students encouraged me to do so); why I didn’t big chop in 2007; and why I didn’t start a business to empower women prior to 2015. The good news in all of this is, no matter how hard we try to avoid our calling and postpone the things we know we need to do; our gifts shines through us even when we aren’t mature enough to nurture them. Although Natural Power of HER wasn’t started until 2015; I was educating, empowering and inspiring women with my research and presentation back in 2007 when my hair was relaxed (crazy!); and in 2010 when I big chopped. Now, myself and Samantha have the opportunity to use our gifts to educate, empower and inspire hundreds and thousands of women via Natural Power of HER – a mission to build a sisterhood; empowering women to tap into the powers within to leave fearlessly and embrace your natural hair.
So, STOP procrastinating. Do something. Remember other people are depending on you to nurture and use your gifts and to walk in your purpose.
