So you’ve been natural for a while but lately everything about your hair has been pretty “blah.” You’ve tried switching up the hair products or even the styles only to still find yourself completely bored with your mane. Well before you grab a pair of shears or schedule an appointment with your stylist to chop it all off, let’s think of alternatives for putting excitement back into your crown of glory.
There’s never a bad time to try out new hairstyles especially protective styles. Whether you’re for or against weave, protective styling is a great option for switching up your look without a long term commitment. Also, it gives your hair a break from constant manipulation and protects from environmental damage. So don’t knock a neat set of braids, twists, or even a sew-in. If you’d like to avoid adding weave you can opt for a sleek and chic updo or bun. Youtube has tons of “how to” videos for styles that you can do yourself. An added benefit is less time spent on your hair in the morning. Just remember to avoid neglecting your hair care routine. Your hair should stay hydrated and nourished as if you were sticking to your daily wash and go.
What about a color change? Adding subtle (or bold if you’re up for it) highlights is a great way to make you fall in love with your strands all over again. It’s recommended that you have your hair colored by a professional stylist as natural hair can be very fragile. If you’re a DIY gal like me, make sure you are very familiar with the process, chemicals, and everything in between as it is a chemical process. Adding or removing color can be very harsh on your hair if not taken care of properly so don’t skip out on deep conditioning and masque treatments afterwards. Moisture is mandatory.
No matter what you do to put the pop back into your locks, make sure you’re taking amazing care of that beautiful hair.
