“I honestly think it is better to be a failure at something you love than to be a success at something you hate.” George Burns
Have you ever thought of a business idea, wanting to move, wanting to go to school, or had a big dream but worried about failing? Sometimes we let worry and stress consume us where we don’t even want to take the first step. Fear holds us back from what we’re meant to do. I’m not saying that you’ll never fail because to be honest you might. But, don’t let that stop you.
When people think of failure they automatically place it with something negative. When really that fear of failure is one dealing with a personal disposition about yourself. I’ll admit putting yourself out there can be scary as hell. We think of all these worst case scenarios” If I attempt to go towards my dream and fail, everyone will know I’m _________. (Worthless, stupid, weak, etc,) But you’re not. Everyone has to make mistakes and fail sometimes to get to their next innovative process or take the next step towards where they need to go. Taking risk is what life is all about, we never know what’s going to happen but we know we got to keep moving forward. Go for that business, go for that idea that you keep thinking is impossible and believe you can do it.
How to Overcome
Change your Perspective: Changing your perspective of “failure”. Instead of failure being this scary word that nobody wants to experience. Knowing that it’s a part of life and the creative process maybe can make it a little easier. Also changing your perspective to being positive can make a difference. It’s crazy how positive thinking can change you whole attitude in life. It helps with building your self-esteem and self-confidence. Also, changing your perspective of fear Instead of thinking about the worst case scenario, what the best outcome that can happen. This leads me into my next one.
Assess all outcomes
Think of each outcome that can possible happen. Every best and worst case scenario that you can think of. Simply writing each one down can get rid of the fear of your decision. It can also help you see how sometimes your worst case scenario is a little irrational and really not that bad at all.
Don’t’ give up. Keep going
Fear of failure can destroy your dreams if you let it. Yes there will be times where things don’t go your way or a mishap might happen but that doesn’t mean give up. If it’s something you believe in, it’s about believing and knowing you can do it. Don’t give up or let your fear hold you back.
